I'm new here; how do I get in touch with the community association?
You may announce your arrival by sending a note saying that you have just arrived and address it to the SBIA, P. O. Box 343, Pasadena, MD 21123.  Let us know whether you are a property-owner or are renting your home.  Property-owners may become voting members by paying the annual dues of $25.  Renters are encouraged to participate in our meetings and on our committees; and we are grateful for any donations.  Everyone is welcome at our Social Events and entitled to use all our common properties.
The best way to meet us is to attend the next general meeting or social event.  If you haven't received a newsletter (hand distributed before each general meeting), check the list of dates and the address of where we meet on our home page.  Please introduce yourself while you are there; we'll be glad to meet you!
Upcoming social events are publicized on posters around the neighborhood and on the Community Bulletin Board located at the beach & pier area on Granada Rd. at Geneva Rd.

How can I get a slip for my boat?
Boat slips (although we know of some misunderstandings about this) do not transfer with property in Sunset Beach.  The slips belong to the whole community and are managed according to specific rules by the Beach & Pier committee chairman.  At present, there is a waiting list for slips on both piers.  Read the Beach & Pier Rules on the Beach & Pier page for details.  You may contact the B&P chairman, John Williams, to get on the waiting list.  His phone number is 443-413-4971; his email address is johnhwilliamsjr@mac.com.
You may purchase a ramp key as long as you have a boat registered in your name at your Sunset Beach address by contacting John, or attending a general meeting.  We also conduct boat business at the annual Spring Fling, usually in April, and of course, at our general meetings.

Whom should I call about vandalism, theft, or some unwanted behavior of my neighbors?
CALL THE EASTERN DISTRICT POLICE, 410-222-6145
The Association has no authority over any community residents other than to enforce the covenants of the deed to the common properties and membership-approved rules relating to their use.  If you object to some aspect of your neighbors' behavior, and others share your feelings, we may include a plea to correct it in the newsletters.
We have been told by the authorities that the more calls that come from a given neighborhood, the more often it will be patrolled.  So, you are doing yourself and the community a favor by making such a call whenever you experience a problem of that nature.
We do encourage everyone to come to general meetings and raise issues that are concerning them, however.  Currently, some of our residents have been plagued with some serious vandalisms and are considering the formation of a Neighborhood Watch committee.

Where can I get copies of the Association's deed, Constitution, Bylaws, or the Beach & Pier & Private Event Rules?
You can print them off this website for yourself, by going to the Constitution & By-Laws button, the Deed & Certificate of Incorporation button and/or the Beach & Pier button.

Why don't I receive a membership card or some type of receipt for the dues I mail in?
Mailing membership cards back to individual member households seemed too costly to continue at one point; and the board decided that your cancelled check could serve as your receipt.

How can I find out what is going on in the community?
First, the best way to know exactly what is going on, is to attend our general meetings at the Riviera Beach Fire Hall on the first Tuesday of January, March, April, June, September and October.  Dates, time, and place are prominently displayed on our Home page.
Second, keep an eye out for our newsletter
Third, our Community Bulletin Board displays our beach rules, lists our officers & board members.

I'm selling a house in Sunset Beach and my realtor wants some information about the Improvement Association; where can I get such information?
Our "Sellers' Packet" of information about the community and the Association can be printed off this website by going to the Sellers/Buyers Info button.

I own property on the waterfront.  May I build a private pier?
Our community is non-riparian.  The community, not the individual property-owners along the waterfront, owns the strip of land along the water which is called Sunset Walk.  (Traditionally, waterfront residents have cut grass and done any other maintenance tasks along the sections in front of them and on adjacent access lots.  Their generosity has saved the Association and therefore, the community, that considerable expense over the years.)  Any pier-building along here would have to be approved by the Association membership and would raise issues of ownership, liability, and use of such piers.
